The night
Gate Milano presents: Colin Benders & Freddy K On Friday, February 19th, Colin Benders and Freddy K come to Gate Milano, two artists for whom no two nights are ever the same. Colin Benders is classically trained and was first known as Kyteman, leading an orchestra that fused rap, jazz and classical instruments. Today he builds every set from scratch on modular synths: nothing sequenced, no track IDs, no recordings to take home. “The music only exists when you’re there,” he says. “When you leave, it’s gone.” Freddy K has been campaigning for techno from the dancefloor since the nineties. In 1993, aged 21, Alessio Armeni launched Virus in Rome, a radio show that ran every night and soon grew into parties, a booking agency and a record shop. His debut album Rage Of Age followed in 1995. He later co-founded Elettronica Romana, which released some of the first EPs by Donato Dozzy and Giorgio Gigli, and in Berlin he set up KEY Vinyl, a techno label for DJs. Strictly vinyl, sessions that have stretched to sixteen hours, and a selection that can drop Soft Cell or Bronski Beat when the timing is right. Antonio De Angelis returns to Gate Milano to open the night.
Who's playing
Colin Benders
Classically trained, once known as Kyteman, now one of techno's most unique live performers. Colin Benders improvises everything on his modular system: hypnotic, primal sets that will never sound the same twice.
Freddy K
